On the sacred occasion of Śrī Nityānanda Trayodaśī, devotees bow with overflowing love and humility at the lotus feet of Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu, the original spiritual master, the ocean of prema, and the embodiment of unlimited compassion. Today, we remember the Lord who descends into this world solely to uplift the fallen, awaken dormant love for Kṛṣṇa, and shower unconditional mercy on all souls.

Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu is none other than Śrī Saṅkarṣaṇa, Śrī Balarāma, Mahā-Viṣṇu, and Kṣīrodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, the origin of countless universes. Yet, by His mercy, He walks among us in intimate form as Nitāi, extending His arms of compassion, guiding all towards the Holy Name. As Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta glorifies:

“nityānanda—sakarṣaa, mahā-viṣu, kāraodakaśāyī
ra aśe aśe haila brahmāṇḍa-bhāri”
— Ādi-līlā 5.4–5

From His expansions, all creation arises, yet this same Supreme Lord wanders door to door, awakening souls to chant His name. What intimacy, what mercy!

Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu does not measure worthiness. He does not pause to judge sin or merit. As the Caitanya-bhāgavata proclaims:

“avatāra nāhi kare pāpa-vicāra
patita-pāvana nāma—ei tomāra”

He steps first into broken lives, so that others may later learn how to rise. Where logic retreats, Nitāi advances; where hope falters, His glance revives. The fallen, the lost, the weary—all are embraced in His mercy.

Even the remembrance of Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu is transformative. To speak His holy name is to feel chains quietly fall. Even hearts hardened by neglect or despair begin to breathe with devotion:

Nitāi… Nitāi…

By His mercy alone, we are led to the golden embrace ofŚrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Ādi-līlā 8.31) declares:

“nityānanda-prasāde pāya caitanya-k
caitanya-prasāde pāya ka-prema”

Through Nitāi’s mercy comes Mahāprabhu’s mercy, and through Mahāprabhu’s mercy, the soul awakens to Śrī Kṛṣṇa-premathe ultimate, all-encompassing ecstasy of divine love.

The pastimes of Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu are replete with intimacy, playfulness, and divine bliss. When He first met Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in Navadvīpa, He fell unconscious from the intensity of ecstatic love, as did the Lord Himself. They embraced, laughed, and wept in spiritual ecstasy, their hearts entwined in prema beyond comprehension.

Nitāi’s merciful acts were not limited to saints alone. As a child, He protected devotees’ belongings, lifted the fallen, played with children, and distributed the bliss of Hari-nāma wherever He went. Srivasa Pandit, and other intimate associates of Mahāprabhu were amazed by His compassionate and mischievous lilas, witnessing firsthand the all-powerful yet intimate Lordin human form.

Through Nitāi’s mercy, even a crow returning a stolen golden cup becomes a testament to His loving attention. He manifests the omnipotence of Mahā-Viṣṇu through simple acts of divine play, showing that every living being is precious in His eyes.

On this sacred Śrī Nityānanda Trayodaśī, we may pray:

  • May His plough uproot all doubts and fears,
  • May His boundless mercy echo in every chant and prayer,
  • May His holy name dwell in every heart with care,
  • May every thought, every breath, every tear become a garland of love at His lotus feet.

With folded hands and overflowing gratitude, we take complete shelter at the lotus feet of ŚrīNityānanda Prabhu, the original spiritual master, the deliverer of the fallen, the embodiment of divine love. May we forever be immersed in His mercy, guided by His glance, and carried by His grace to the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Jaya Jaya Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu!
Jaya Jaya Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu!
Jaya Jaya Śrī Gaura–Nitāi!

Hare Kṛṣṇa!
